George the Second by the Grace of God
of Great Britain France and Ireland King Defender of the Faith &c To All whom these presents shall come ~
Greeting Whereas Wee did by Our Letters Patent under our Great Seal of Great Britain bearing date at ~
Westminster the Eighth day of August in the Sixth Year of Our reign Give and Grant unto our Trusty ~
and Welbeloved John Thornhilll Esquire the Office of Our Serjeant Painter and Serjeant Painter of all
Our Works wheresoever as well in any wise belonging to our Royal Palaces and houses as to our Great ~
Wardrobe to be Painted Gilded or Embellished and also appertaining or belonging to Our Office of the Revels and to Our
Stables and to Our Navys and Ships Barges and Close Barges Coaches Chariots Caroches Litters Waggons
and Close Carrs Tents and Pavilions Heralds Coats Trumpet Banners and also in anything belonging to the
Solemnization of Burials or Funerals To Have and Enjoy the said Office unto the said John Thornhill by himself or his sufficient Deputy or deputys ~
together with the Wages and Fee of Ten Pounds by the year payable at the Exchequer Payable during our Pleasure as by the said Revised ~
Letters Patent amongst other things therein contained Relation being thereunto had may more fully and at large Appear Now ~
Know Ye that Wee have Revoked and Determined and by these presents Do Revoke and Determine the Said Revised Letters Patent ~
and all and Singular things therein contained And further Know Ye that Wee for divers good Causes and Considerations whereunto
Especially Moving of Our Especial Grace and of Our Certain Knowledge and meer Motion have given and Granted and by these presentes Do give and
Grant unto our trusty and Welbeloved William Hogarth Gentleman the said office of Our Serjeant Painter and Serjeant Painter of all our Works ~
wheresoever as well in any wise belonging to our Royal Palaces and houses as to our Great Wardrobe to be Painted Gilded or Imbellished ~
and also Appertaining or Belonging to our Office of the revels and to Our Stables and to Our Navys and Ships Barges and Close
Barges Coaches, Chariots Caroches Litters wagons and Close Carrs Tents and Pavillions Heralds Coats Trumpet Banners
and also anything belonging to the Solemnization of Burials or Funerals And him the said William Hogarth our Serjeant
Painter and Serjeant Painter of all Our Workes and Premises aforesaid wheresoever Wee donate ordain and constitute by these
presents To Have Enjoy Exercise and Occupy the said Office unto the said William Hogarth by himself or by his Sufficient Deputys ~
for and during our pleasure Moreover Wee Do give and of our most Abundant Especial Grace and of Our Certain Knowledge and meer
Motion Do Grant unto the Said William Hogarth for the Exercise and Occupation of the said Office the Wages and Fee of Ten Pounds
of Lawfull money of Great Britain by the Year To Have and yearly preserve the said Wages and Fee of Ten Pounds unto the said ~
William Hogarth for and during Our Pleasure at the Receipt of Our Exchequer at Westminster by the Hands of the Commissioners
of Our Treasury or High Treasurer Chancellor Under Treasurer and other Our officers there for the time being out of any Our ~
Revenues Applicable to the Uses of Our Civil Government The first Payment thereof to begin and be computed by the Day ~
from the day of the date of these Our Letters Patent and to be Paid at and for the Fifth day of July then next Ensuing and the ~
Subsequent Payments thereof to be made Quarterly at the Four most Usual Days of Payment in the Year by Equal Portions
together with all and Singular Other Wages Fees Liverys Profits Commodities and Advantages to the said Office due
and Accustomed in as large and Ample manner and form to all Intents and Purposes as the said John Thornhill or any other
Person or Persons heretofore having the said Office hath or have had or Received in or for the Exercise of occupation of
the Office aforesaid. In Witness whereof Wee have Caused these our Letters to be made Patent Witness Our Self at Westminster ~
the Sixth xiii Day of June xii in the Thirtieth Year of our Reign.
