George III & the Caricaturists

Sheila O’Connell, the Trust’s vice-chairman, will be giving a talk to the Friends of St Nicholas on 25 January at 7.00pm in the church. She was for more than thirty years a curator in the British Museum Department of Prints and Drawings, where she looked after their great collection of British satirical prints. Amongst her publications is The Popular Print in England. The talk should be fun since some of the caricatures of the King and his circle are among the most scurrilously witty ever drawn.

Entrance is £7.00 and £5.00 for concessions (and free for Friends of St Nicholas Church); doors will open at 6.30pm, and refreshments will be available.

Mulberry Garden Project news

Hogarth’s House Mulberry Garden Project is moving closer to reality. Tenders are now being sought for building the learning/events studio, plus a bothy and greenhouse for a new volunteer gardening team. Work should be under- way by April. And 2 Mulberry Garden grants have been confirmed in one week, an excellent way to start 2018. Thanks to the John & Ruth Howard Trust for £5,000 and the Circles of Art for £1,000 (their first ever grant!).

We still have to raise £175,000 towards the £1.7m target. We hope to find sponsors at £25,000 each for the bothy and small greenhouse/potting shed, for which we have Listed Building Consent . . .
