The William Hogarth Trust, working in partnership with the George & Devonshire at Hogarth Roundabout, has organised this special event to mark William Hogarth\u2019s 313th birthday and to raise funds towards the restoration of Hogarth\u2019s House. The pub provides the ideal setting, standing only a short distance from the House and dating from the 18th century \u2013 Hogarth would have known it.<\/p>\n

Dr Steven Parissien will provide an expert lecture on the history of gin, from Hogarth\u2019s time to the present day, with samples of at least six different types of gin to taste. In a sociable setting you will discover the history of the distilling processes, the varying alcoholic strength of the different gins and the use of \u201cbotanicals\u201d to flavour the spirit.
\nThe talk and the tasting will last until about 8.30pm and tickets may be bought for this part of the event alone. However, those who wish to stay can book a traditional beef supper, with a dessert and a beer.<\/p>\n

Tickets must be booked in advance. For the gin tasting alone the cost is \u00a320 per person, and for the tasting and beef supper, \u00a332 per person. Participants must be over 18 years of age.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Places are limited, so to ensure yours, please send a contact name and address with details of whether you need tickets for the tasting or for both the tasting and the supper. Cheques should be made out to The William Hogarth Trust, 52 Prebend Gardens, London W6 OXU.<\/p>\n

\nSteven Parissien became Director of Compton Verney in 2009. He has written extensively on architectural and cultural history and has held posts at The Georgian Group, English Heritage and The Paul Mellon Centre for Studies in British Art in London. He was Director of Education at The Prince\u2019s Foundation for the Built Environment before joining Compton Verney.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
