“Your Self”, until 1 March

The final element of the 250th commemoration of Hogarth’s death is now on at Hogarth’s House. Following the enormously successful exhibition of self-portraits, The Small Self, which was for invited contributors, an open exhibition of self-portraits is now on show until 1 March. A generous grant, awarded to the WHT by the John Paul Getty Junior Trust, supported the 250th anniversary events programme.  It made possible four self-portrait workshops designed to inspire and encourage potential contributors to the current show. Four different practicising artists ran sessions at Hogarth’s House in December, and some artists’ materials were available for participants.  shaded 250 logo

The exhibition is open every day except Mondays, 12 noon to 5pm, admission free. A number of Hounslow Borough residents are included in the exhibition – do go along, you may find friends and neighbours on the wall!  And the elegant illustrated catalogue for The Small Self, which includes images of every self-portrait shown, is now on sale at the House at the bargain price of £3.

Rowson teatowel editedGuardian cartoonist, Martin Rowson, a passionate Hogarth enthusiast, produced a Hogarth-inspired drawing, Hogarth’s Roundabout, to mark the 300th anniversary of the artist’s birth in 1997. An A3 reproduction on good quality paper can be purchased ready to frame at £15 a copy. To mark the 250th anniversary of Hogarth’s death the same image has now been adapted to create a high quality cotton tea towel, great fun at £10.

????????????????? In addition, Martin has produced an imaginative image for a special pug mug. Printed in black on a white bone china mug, the pug stares out at you while you drink, but he is peeing Hogarth’s famous “Line of Beauty”, which runs around the mug to land in a splash on the other side! The mugs cost £8.95 each.

The Trust has been delighted to support the House during Hogarth’s 250th anniversary year.shaded 250 logo
